The first impression I had of ACE online was like walking by the discount DVD rack and seeing a box that looked very entertaining to watch and wondering about it. Looking at the clips on the website I said “this looks fun” and with wonder I downloaded the game to get the real feel of it. ACE online is one of the Suba Games lineup of which they say are the best free MMO games. The game is a MMO space shooter to be specific, and the videos gave me flashbacks to my Earth and Beyond days. Although this looked alot better than Earth and Beyond did at space shooting.
Starting the game you have a choice between 4 ships or gears as they are called. Each having its own strengths and weaknesses based on its purpose in battle. You also get to choose a character from 10 standard characters. There isn’t a character creator, but who cares! Its the gears that are the real prize in this game. You will want to study the roles each gear plays and decide for yourself the way you want to play. Don’t worry if you play and decide you aren’t happy with the role your choose, you can easily create a new character with a new gear.
Lets say you buy that interesting looking DVD and watch it. You find that the movie is a lot better than you expected, and wonder why isn’t this more popular than it is? That the impression I have of ACE Online. This game is a high flying good time, and I can not see why this game isn’t more popular. The meld of MMORPG mechanics and Space Shooter gameplay have taken a very fresh approach in this game. ACE Online shows that when done correctly you can release the genre from the point and click shackles. Flight uses the simple control of moving the mouse. Point your mouse and that’s the direction you go. Firing is simple with standard and advanced weapons using the left and right mouse buttons. The target lock system is very intuitive. Using a circle on the screen you direct your ship facing your target and position them inside the circle to lock. Once locked they stay locked showing you their position until released with the shift key. Like nearly all MMOs there is a grind, but in this game it is entertaining. You are engaged the entire fight unlike with point and click MMOs. Being in control throughout the dogfight draws you into the experience. You will find that you don’t mind that mission to kill 30 somethings. Its just one fun ride after the next.

For a breif second I thought this was a troll, “Hidden gem of the internet?” As Reno says the engine is horrible, GMs are Lazy bastards, the dev team needs to allow GPU Support, and, how about, some nice events for the players who have dripped, sweat blood and tears for the past 2 years for this game, for its amazing PVP, but HORRIBLE HORRIBLE coding, To those who have stayed loyal to this game, My hats off to you, Keep strong, Keep strong, Maybe one day the devs will show some appriciation for us
Basically this game does what meth did for the olsen twins.
Seems like it has alot but all it really does is troll you along with the community…
Think /b/ but in a game.
If you enjoy packet loss, server crashs, shitty coding, glitches that have become apart of the game play more then the skills, and that the gameplay is so damn repetitive that nothing ever new happens,
and you get ACE/AIRRIVALS
Have a Nice Day.
Sure, the game is glitchy, and sure there is lag everywhere along with generally poor servers, but what do you really expect with a free game? Okay, so maybe not so much on the glitchy side, they can work on that, but can they really do much about buying new servers, etc.? I mean, how much do these guys make anyways?
