If there are any other action movie junkies out there, you are right at home on mogamu.com. We take our movies, and especially our action movies very seriously. Here is our list of the top 5 action movie sequences of the last decade.
not a drop of testosterone in the whole scene and it still rocks! Who ever thought action scenes and men went hand in hand are seriously mistaken. After Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh) steals Li Mu Bai’s sword its up to Ziyi Zhang to get it back. And if I missed a name, let me see you type it better.
Truth is, these two go at it hard. The angles are wide and the takes are long. One thing I hate about American action movies is the close-up short takes to mask bad choreography. No problem here, I was afraid to touch the remote for getting my finger smashed by all of the fighting.
so it wasnt a movie, but Final Fantasy: Advent children was. Our intention was to include the final sequence between Cloud and Kadaaj(who later transforms into one-winged angel Sephiroth, but this fight was so much better we had to make the switch. The motion is fast and dramatic. Camera angles are varied from close up sparks to a far off view of the spectacle. Even beyond the action, you get a real human feel for who these characters are. Now, its time for square-enix to consider a live action Sephiroth.
Finally, we see how the beef started, and what Obiwan meant by having to finish something he had to take care of in A New Hope. This is supposedly the quintessential lightsabre battle and short of a few complaints it true lives up to it. Obiwan won in more obvoius ways than one might think, mostly the pre-bout trash talking. Anikin Skywalker’s (Hayden Christensen) lines are delivered like a college lecture on Microbiolgy, I would know because Ive had this course…twice. Its dry and emotionless. However, ObiWan is bold and exagurative. When the lightsabre sparks fly they dont stop. At a little over 7 minutes, this is no doubt the greatest starwars battle but also one of the best struggles in action movie history. Granted, the lava scenes are a little silly. George Lucas wanted these guys fighting over lava and he didnt let a simple thing like logic stop him from writing it in. However, all complaints aside…great scene. One of the best.
word…brilliant. This over stylized battle exemplifies exactly what makes Quenton Tarentino arguably one of the greatest filmmakers of our time. A perfect mix of camera angles, sound effects, style and building momentum come together almost poetically. Also running at about 7 minutes, its the best overall action scene we have seen in the last decade…if it were not for for our #1 choice…
Come on, admit it. You were on the edge of your seat. This scene has the best build of any action scene ever. Agent Smith(Hugo Weaving) gives a masterful bad guy speech. “Its purpose that created us, purpose that defines us, that guides us…drives us” No corny dialogue here. Hugo Weaving drags Keannu Reeve(Neo) kicking and screaming through a brilliant creation. Granted, the CG Neo is a little fake. They should have used wire work with the Neo head pasted on the same way they created the multiple Agent Smiths. But faults aside, the Burly Brawl stands as the greatest action movie scene of the last few years.
