My biggest issue with the X-men movies from day one has been the complete disregard of the comic outfits. With years of costume designs to choose from, it just seems silly to dress all our favorite characters up in black leather. How plain, how dull, and how disrespectful to great ideas of the past.
Well, now the icing is finally on the cake. As X-Men Origins: Wolverine makes it way to the big screen, it has been speculated through images and blogs around the internet that Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds from Blade: Trinity)…one of the coolest character designs in Marvel’s history, will not be dawning his iconic outfit. Blasphemy! The latest image has Reynolds in a red T-shirt. Are you serious? This is tragic and quite obvious that these guys, no matter how much they know about movies, don’t take pride in completely respecting the source material. Yeah, you can argue that spandex doesn’t translate to the big screen, but then I will call you a liar and tell you to go watch the Spiderman films. Rumor has it that Wolverine footage re-shot in Vancouver will expand the role of Deadpool in the upcoming films and maybe even include the costume. Lets hope so. Movie translations of comics usually suck visually. Come on guys, Iron Man and Spiderman proved it could be done, now its your turn.
Although most people think Ryan Reynolds was bad casting for Deadpool, I actually think it isn’t that bad. The guy literally saved Blade Trinity without any help from the writers, directors or Snipes…I say give him a chance now. And one more thing, the name of the movie should be “Wolverine” just like the comic. You really shouldn’t name a movie a movie X-Men origin(s) when you are only exploring one character. And if there are more Origin stories on the way, i suggest one of two things. 1) Cancel them because its a dumb idea, or 2) Don’t get sequel-itis before its time.
