I must say that this is the absolute best video game to movie translation I have ever seen. Metal Gear Solid Philanthropy was done solely out of the desire of fans to make a true representation of Metal Gear Solid in film. With a completely original story line and a few new faces this fan movie stays true to the aspects that made the games so popular.
MGS: Philanthropy pulls off a feat I wish all large movie studios would have done when they developed a movie based on a video game. I’m certain that if this had been a Hollywood hack job of a film they would focus more on the combat elements and leave the depth of character and story largely untouched. The people at Hive Division have taken the necessary time to build the story and the characters in the same manner as the MGS video game series.

The story follows Solid Snake played by Giacomo Talamini on a new adventure with a new organization called Philanthropy. The organization’s goal is to stop the proliferation of Metal Gears or any other types of weapons of mass destruction. The two new faces on this mission are are young care free sniper named Pierre Leclerc played by Nicola Cecconi and a female soldier with a mysterious past named Elizabeth Laeken played by Patrizia Liccardi.
The visual and special effects are amazing for a fan film with no budget. Hive Division took advantage of blue screen techniques for some locations and effects. The live locations they found are perfect for the MGS type war torn battlefields. The sound effects and music crew bring the whole experience alive with an amazing sound track.
This is a wonderful tribute to the Hideo Kojima’s artistic series. I’ve saved the best news for last. The movie is free. Thats right its absolutely free for download on the MGS: Philanthropy site. Its a little over an hour long and this is only part one of three. I can not wait to see the rest of this explosive series of tribute movies.
