Tetris Friends has just taken its very addictive multiplayer Tetris to a new level. They have add a live mode where you can play head to head with other real live players. This live mode is currently in closed beta and will soon be available to the rest of the tetris friends community.
The live mode puts you up against one to five other players to see who can last the longest. To add to the excitement they have thrown in various items that you can obtain during the match by eliminating lines that have special blocks in them. Some of the more devious items that you can use against opponents cause things like invert controls, speeding up the drop speed of blocks, and even fogging up the screen so you can’t see the board. As annoying as these are there are items that help you also. My favorite is an item that stacks all the block you have on the right side of the board giving you room to drop a long piece on the side for big points and dropping rows quick. To keep the games moving swiftly they added an automatic line increase. After playing a match for about a minute dark gray line start moving up the screen forcing the game to a conclusion. This can be very irritating, but it absolutely necessary to keep the matches from getting extremely long.
To win you eliminate the others by sending lines or outlast them. Receiving lines in a match can sometime feel very unbalanced since the target moves very slow and allows for a person to send alot of lines at once. Also it seems the target cycles randomly which my also contribute to one person receiving lots of lines at once. This feature may need a little tweaking, but aside from that the new live mode is still a blast.
