So what would it be like if Tim Burton made a video game? Yeah this is what it would be like. Scary Girl is a free online flash game by Nathan Jurevicius. The story behind the eye patch is that Scary Girl was abandoned and washed up on a deserted peninsula. She is searching for a man she sees in her dreams ,or more like nightmares, to give her answers. The game is a platformer type game that follows close to the tradition of tricky jumps, item pickups and menacing enemies. Scary Girl is one of those games that is really, really good in certain areas ,and really really bad in others.
Scary Girl’s weakness is that the platformer part is not executed good at all. The control scheme is awkward and troublesome at times. At time it is extremely difficult to make jumps especially on the stages with moving platforms. Speaking of the moving platforms the main character tends to float a bit on them making jumps hard to make. Other time you cant recognize what you can land on making it hard to know where to jump. Attacking is a problem also because of the short range of Scary Girls attack. Having to let enemies get close makes timing very important. You can jump on their heads, but its not as easy as it sounds all the time.
With all that out the way I want to get to the strength of this game. Scary Girl is artistcally briliant! Starting at the introduction movie you are wrapped in the twisted world of Scary Girl. This poor little girl with one eye, one tenticale arm with a hook , and a boney stump for the other arm. The world is bright and vibrant at times ,and very dark at others. All this is woven perfectlly with beautiful soundtrack. The music is also a big part of the game as it moves you through the emotional side of Scary Girls adventure.

It is very clear that most of the focus was on the presentation and not so much on the technical side of this game. This is the type of game that is very very hard to hate and very very hard to love. It sitting middle of the road because the world is so entertaining to see and hear. You really want to see Scary Girl finish her quest. Then on the other hand the enormous frustration presented by the controls and other elements make you want to give up and call it quits. Although this is the case with this game i believe its strengths outweigh its weakness ,and is worth playing. So I say give Scary Girl a chance.
