Gamer Movie Trailer | This movie is the type of thing that’s right up our ally. Its a movie set in a future where players control real live people fighting in a live gun battle. That’s right, a fully interactive MMOFPS. Although games will never reach this level we can live it through film. The movie stars Gerard Butler whom we remember as King Leonidas in 300. The tidbits we gather from the trailer is that the name of the game is Slayers. Players control death row inmates, Gerard’s character Kable being one, in the battlefield. An inmate surviving 30 matches is released to go free. I think what happens, and this is only my assumption, is that hes not allowed to leave which forces him to fight his way out with the help of the players to reunite with his family and ultimately destroy the the game and its creators. This seems to be the direction implied by the movie’s trailer.
This film doesn’t seem to be a blockbuster smash hit, but does have the makings of a cult classic. A movie that will stand the test of time and grow an underground following among the gaming crowd. I really think this movie will find its greatest success outside of the theater. Gamer is set for release in theaters on September 4.
