First, let me start by saying that I do not like or agree with the use of video games as a recruitment tool for the Army. I think its just wrong. Aside from the fact that the Army is the driving force behind the creation and eventual free release of the game it is a solid tactical shooter. Just do not get caught up in the game and go running to a recruitment office to sign up. This is only a game and Real war is worlds different and there aren’t any save points.

Having bought the original game I was excited to see the free release of this wonderful game. My first thought was how did they make it free, they must have striped it like a stolen car. Turns out I was very wrong. The game is just as it always was. Everything from game play to graphics is intact.

Full Spectrum Warrior was famous for the way they handled realism. Lets face it, I don’t care how real they say a game is, it’s not! And this is the thin line that video game developers walk. How to make the game real with out being real. Because real is boring, that’s why we play games. The command system in Full Spectrum Warrior is where the magic happens. Issuing commands to your soldiers and watching them execute the commands is what gives you the feel of being a soldier in a live battlefield. Another thing that adds to the realism is the personalities of the soldiers. You get that personal feel of knowing the guys in your squad because each one has a name, the have accents, they joke with each other. It builds a personal bond with the player which in turn builds upon the command system. Why? Because now your squad mates are not pawns that you just throw into fire. Its a person, a friend that you don’t want to see hurt. Full Spectrum Warrior Free Edition is a plesent welcome to the fold and should not just be played but experienced.
