With the tons and tons of flash games around the web sometimes its hard to sort through them and find one that appeals to you. Other times there are those games that jump right out and grab you. Something about it grips you and wont let go. Shadez The Black Operations is one of these games. Its mix of addictive gameplay and artistic style make this a flash game to remember.

The artistic style of this game is so simple and amazing all at the same time. Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to offend Sean Cooper by saying the art is simple and implying it was simple to create. What I mean is that in an age of super hyper realistic graphics so precise you can see the sweet on an ant that Sean has produced a game that is just as in depth as those games with out pushing the so called bleeding edge. True, this is a flash game and there are certain graphical limitations, but there are those flash games where the art tries to go far overboard, and some that don’t come close enough. Shadez uses its contrast to give you a perception of being on the edge of a battlefield commanding the troops. Even though all that is seen are shadows everything that happens is crystal clear to the player. It is total genius to use this art style to make the game more immersive and draw the players attention fully into the game’s world.

Being that this is a 2D RTS (real time strategy) game the gameplay is a little different from the traditional 3D RTS style. You will be happy to know that these changes take nothing from the game itself. On the command panel are three tabs which contain your various units, special attacks and upgrades. This should be familiar to any RTS fan. The difference is that the view is a 2D side view. Control is not point and click to control the troops and units. They are sent moving across the battlefield in traditional tower defence style to eliminate enemies. After all enemies are eliminated you win the round and another wave is sent after you. The blend of RTS and tower defence gameplay may not be a new concept, but there aren’t many who pull it off as well as Sean did with Shadez.

Of the many many titles out there to play this is one that remains top on my list. This is a small game with a big impact. Keep up the good work Sean!
